Well here is my final post before Christmas.
I would just like to say many thanks to everyone who takes the time to look at my pictures. It is always nice to receive your emails and messages from around the globe covering all aspects of photography, wildlife and nature in particular.
Here is a bird that was quite happy to do a STINT as a Christmas card…
A Temminck’s Stint photographed in Norway. Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday time.
Finally, the elements came together. Owls, sunshine and little or no wind…
It has taken five weeks since my first sighting of these Owls to get this image. Primarily, poor light, strong winds and my availability with a camera have all been against me. This weekend however all things came together and although I only saw two Owls, this one came close enough to be photographed.
I am still not totally happy and I will continue to try and improve. Hopefully the holiday period will afford me some more opportunities.
I have been spending some time recently in the company of Short Eared Owls.
It has been a real challenge and I am still a long way from where I would like to be in my quest for an image of these winter visitors. Trying to get one of these Owls in decent light was always going to be difficult as the window of opportunity is very small. Typically they don’t start to hunt until the late afternoon when the light has all but gone. They also don’t like to waste energy so when it is windy they don’t show. Given the seasonal weather, sunny afternoons with no wind that occur at a weekend are at a premium. Hopefully the coming holiday period will give me some extra opportunities to photograph these wild birds of prey.
Here is my latest image. There are plenty more on my Facebook and Google+ pages.
