In my last post I promised a more classical view of the Pied Kingfisher for those of you who don’t like Marmite. Well here it is.
This bird was feeding along a small river and over time I had noticed that it had one or two favourite perches that it would use to rest and hunt. One was on the far bank where the bird was nicely lit and spent most of its time looking towards the camera. This perch was his other favourite. It was on the near bank of the river so as a consequence the bird was quite large in the frame and frustratingly it spent most of its time looking away from me.
Rather than reposition the vehicle ( and risk the bird flying away ) I decided to wait in the hope that at some point he would return to the far bank or turn towards the camera. Fortunately he granted me a turn of his head and as soon as the catchlight appeared in his eye, I pressed the shutter.

Nice one Austin – really missing Kicheche at the moment.
splendid all these photographs.
